Terres de Saint-Louis
AOC Coteaux Varois in Provence
A historical player in the wines of Provence
Terres de Saint-Louis is one of the labels released by the Cercle des Vignerons de Provence (The circle of Provençal winemakers). This cooperative has had its roots in the soil of Provence for over 30 years. In 1973, 1,800 vintners and wine cooperatives created a “cooperative union” which became Le Cellier de Saint-Louis.
Since the early 1980s, the impact of this group has been positive. On-site assembly and packaging, there are already 300,000 hectoliters of wine sold in bulk. At the same time, advances in bottling and packaging wine in a bag or box have been developed. Over the years, new cooperatives in the Var and Bouches-du-Rhône have joined the group and now unite around trademark “Le Cellier de Saint Louis.” Finally, in 2004, the Vignerons des Caves de Provence (the other major cooperative in the region) approached the Cellier de Saint Louis. The Cercles des Vignerons de Provence was born. With over 22 million bottles produced, the Cercle represents nearly 10% of the production of wines from Provence. The Cercle des Vignerons de Provence is now the main specialist producer of this region’s wine.
